This time it’s real.

Developer Tim Flack said last summer that he was ready to shut down his Google Glass app, Video Voyager. On Monday night, Flack again emailed the app’s users and confirmed that it’s finally happening later today.

Long time users of Video Voyager probably remember a “Bon Voyage” email I sent a few months ago saying that Video Voyager was going away. Well, I decided to keep it going for a while while I pursued a few opportunities to sell the brand and/or the underlying technology.

Unfortunately, this time it really is goodbye. Tomorrow afternoon at around 4 pm Google will be taking action on my request to remove Video Voyager from the Glass Apps listing and tomorrow night around 9 pm Pacific Time I will be shuttering the backend infrastructure that supports Video Voyager. Video Voyager will still be active on your Glass from what I am told but you won’t be able to submit new videos, play videos from previously delivered notifications or receive new notifications.

If you never used it, Video Voyager basically added location data to your Google Glass videos, maps them, and also shows videos nearby that were shot by other Glass wearers.

With the Explorer program now shut down, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see more developers following Video Voyager’s footsteps and having their apps dropped from the Glassware directory.
