I’m betting you haven’t looked at the Glassware directory lately (like me), so you may be as pleasantly surprised as me to learn that there are a pair of new apps that have been added recently. One is built with a very niche audience in mind, while the other brings a very popular, mainstream chat platform to Glass. We’ll start with that one first.

Fessenger

If you’re an active user of Facebook Messenger, this app may be right up your alley. Here’s the official description:

Finally, you can send, receive and reply to Facebook messages on Glass with Fessenger. No more hassle to pull your phone out of your pocket. Use this Glasware when you are out and about, or when you are multi-tasking: cooking, jogging, shopping, doing laundry, and more. Start using Fessenger today and experience it for yourself! Just say “ok glass, post an update”.

VM Driller Display

And this is the one released for a very niche audience. The official description:

VM Driller Display is a Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) tool that monitors crucial drilling information, such as the magnetic probe tool face angle, in real time. It also allows the user to take shots and send messages to RivCross remotely. Only compatible with RivCross, the HDD software suite released by Vector Magnetics.

This is cool to see because it falls right in line with the messaging from Google when the Explorer program was shut down last month: keep building and submitting apps and we’ll keep adding them to the Glassware directory.

On the other hand, the timing is a shame. An app with mainstream appeal like Fessenger is the kind of thing Glass needed more of over the past year to show non-techies that Glass has everyday uses for “normal people.” (You know what I mean….)
