You may have heard some rumblings about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his comments Wednesday about Google Glass and/or wearable technology in general. Did he really throw Glass under the bus and describe it as looking “weird”?

Zuckerberg was speaking in Bogota, Columbia, at the latest of his town hall-style Q&A sessions, where he takes questions from Facebook users about a variety of topics. Towards the end of yesterday’s session, a gal in the crowd asked him about the future of Facebook in light of new technology, and specifically mentioned Google Glass:

How do you imagine Facebook in 10 years? According to technology like Google Glass, for example — how do you imagine the Facebook community?

Zuckerberg spent several minutes answering the question, focusing on how he hopes the internet will change (more people connected) in the next 10 years, how Facebook will change, and then he finally addressed technology and hardware:

I think it’s pretty easy to imagine that, in the future, we will have something that either we can wear — maybe it’ll look like just normal glasses, so it won’t look weird like some of the stuff that exists today — and you’ll just be able to have context about what’s going on around you in the world, communicate with people and not have to disrupt your conversations by looking down or be interruptive.

(emphasis added)

Did he slam Google Glass there? He didn’t mention Glass by name, and there are several other wearable glasses coming to market, but the gal asking the question did mention Glass by name. You could argue about his intentions there, but I’d say he was intentionally referring to Glass without mentioning it by name.

Wanna see it for yourself? The video is online here. The gal’s question starts at about the 43:10 mark, and the Zuckerberg quote above happens at about 46:30.

What do you think he was referring to?
