It might be a coincidence, or it might be a response to last week’s bad news, but Google approved three new apps Monday to push the official Glassware directory over 100 apps.
The new apps can help you find a lost car, deliver a speech and view cockpit flight data on the Glass display. Here they are, in alphabetical order, with the official descriptions from the Glassware directory:
Designed by a pilot, HUD for Glass, immerses you in a true aeronaut’s experience. It displays altitude, speed, aircraft heading, pitch and roll. No Internet connectivity is required; GPS is needed to display some data.
With Find My Car for Glass, you can quickly save the location of your car by saying, “Ok glass, remember where I am”. After you add a pin, you can find your car again with ease.
Speech Helper provides the user with an effective way to deliver a seamless speech. Users can upload speeches and view slide notes on Glass while delivering a presentation. Begin a new hands-free and paperless speech experience right now!
With these three apps approved, the directory now has 101 official apps.
That milestone comes a little more than a year after Google launched the Glassware directory, the only place Explorers can find officially sanctioned Glass apps. It also comes just days after Glass suffered a barrage of bad PR that began with a Reuters article on Friday that included the news that many developers have stopped developing for Glass, and continued all weekend long. (Here on GA, Sterling Udell wrote a similarly-themed article discussing the negative mood among Glass developers at the recent GGDevCon event.)
Whether the timing is intentional or not, Google didn’t miss a chance to praise Glass developers Monday in a tweet announcing the 100-app milestone.
